Experimental research on the effects of pore structure
on particle clogging of groundwater recharge

Abstract:Artificial groundwater recharge is an effective means to increase supplementary amount of ground⁃
water,while particle clogging is the main factor affecting the groundwater recharge efficiency,and the pore
structure of the media is the direct factor affecting the occurrence and development of particle clogging. In
order to study the influence of pore structure on the particle clogging of groundwater recharge, a one-di⁃
mensional sand column physical model was designed and built based on the practice of groundwater re⁃
charge engineering, and the influence of pore structure on the particle clogging of groundwater recharge
was studied through the comparison experiments of glass bead media and quartz sand media. The influence
of pore structure on particle movement and the occurrence and development of particle clogging was quanti⁃
tatively expressed and analyzed. The experimental results were quantitatively described and a theoretical ex⁃
planation was provided. The law of particle movement and the mechanism of particle clogging during ground⁃
water recharge experiments were analyzed and summarized. The study shows that the more irregular the
pore structure of the medium during groundwater recharge,the more rapid the development of particle clog⁃
ging,the higher the development degree and the larger the influence range. This study provides a theoreti⁃
cal reference about the influence of pore structure of media on particle clogging for research on groundwa⁃
ter recharge.
