                  Abstract:Atpresent,duetothecharacteristicsofpoorregulationcapacity,closehydraulicconnectionsbetween
                  upstreamanddownstreamhydropowerstations ,anddependingonmanualadjustmenttostartorshutdownunits,
                  howtoformulateareasonableshort - termschedulingschemequicklybecomesthepracticalproblem facedbysuch
                  kindofhydropowerstationgroups.Basedontheaboveproblems,thispaperproposesashort - term scheduling
                  methodconsideringpeakshavingdemandforsmallandmedium - sizedhydropowerstations.Firstly ,atypicaldaily
                  loadcurveisredrawnintoanewloadcurvewhichissimilartotheinitialcurvebutsteadierbysubsectionmethod.
                  Secondly ,takingthewaterlevelofthereservoirattheendof24hoursasthecontroltarget,theimprovedsucces
                  siveloadsheddingmethodisadoptedtogenerateastationaryinitialoutputprocesssatisfyingtheconstraints.Third
                  ly ,adoptingthemodifiedstrategyofspillingwaterinsubsection,theoutputinthesectionsofspillingwaterwillbe
                  increasedordecreasedwithvaryingsteplengthuntilthemodificationofspillingwateriscompleted.Finally,with
                  theobjectiveofminimizingthemaximum residualload,theimprovedsuccessiveloadsheddingmethodandthe
                  modificationstrategyofspillingwaterareimplementedrepeatedlyfromupstreampowerstationstodownstreamones
                  untiltheerroroftheobjectivevaluemeetstheaccuracyrequirements.Themethodisappliedtosolvetheshort - term
                  schedulingprobleminvolvingthecascadedplantslocatedinJinxiBasinofFujianprovince ,China.Theresultsin
                  dicatethattheproposedmethodcanobtainamorestableoperationschemethanactualresults,effectivelyincrease
                  thecascadepowergenerationunderthepremiseofensuringtimeliness ,respondtothepeakshavingdemandofthe
                  powergridandachieveefficientutilizationofwaterresources.
