Abstract:Energystoragepowerstationstypifiedbypumpedstoragehydropower(PSH)stationbuildinguponhydro
powerbaseplayspivotalroleinimprovingpeakshavingcapacityofpowersystemandpromotingthewindpowerand
photovoltaicpoweraccommodationcapacity.Thisstudyproposesamulti - scalenestingmodelforcapacityplanning
whichcouplingshort - termpeakshavingmodelofPSHstationandcascadehydropowerstations,andlong - termop
erationmodelofcascadehydropowerstationsformultipurposeuse.Moreover ,giventhehighdimensionalityofthe
multi - scalenestingmodel ,weproposeamethodbasedonthesurrogatemodel.TheplannedcascadePSHstations
intheYellowRiverBasinareselectedascasestudy.WesuggestthreedevelopmentmodesofPSHstations,i.e.in
dividualdevelopmentmode ,cascadedevelopmnentmodeandintegrateddevelopmentmode.Sequentially,this
studyrecommendstheinstalledcapacityunderthethreedevclopmentmodesandcomputesthepeakshayingbenefits
throughpumpingoperation.Furthermore ,wederivethetheoreticalformuladescribingtheimpactofpumpingtime
andtransformefficiencybetweenpowergenerationandconsumptionontheinstalledcapacityofPSHstation.Relat
edresultsareshownasfollows :wesuggestadoptingthecombinationofpumpunitsandreversibleunitsorpumpu
nitsandenlargementofLongyangxiahydropowerplanttodevelopLongyangxia - LaxiwaPSHstation.Underindivid

ualdevelopmentmode , thecapacityofLongyangxia -LaxiwaPSH station issuggested 160×10 kW.In
comparison,whileitisdevelopedtogetherwithLaxiwa - NinaPSHstation,theLongyangxia - LaxiwaPSHstationis

suggested205 × 10 kW.TheinstalledcapacityofPSHstationcanincreasewiththereductionofdesignedpumping
time.Inthiscontext ,thepeakshavingabilityofPSH stationincrease,however,thepeakshavingbenefitby
pumpingremainsunchanged.TheinstalledcapacityofLaxiwa - Nina ,Lijiaxia - Zhiganglaka,Gongboxia - Suzhi

plantaresuggested75 × 10 kW,16 × 10 kW,59 × 10 kW respectively.Thesedevelopedplantscanincreasecon
