                  Abstract:Thehydroelectricgeneratingsystemofthehydropowerstationwithsurgetankisacomplexhydro - me
                  chanical - electriccouplingsystem.However,theoscillationcharacteristicsofthecouplingsystemandthecoupling
                  relationshipbetweenthesubsystemshavenotbeenclarified.Inthispaper ,thewholehydropowerstationsystemis
                  dividedintotheheadracetunnel - surgetanksubsystemandthepenstock - unitsubsystem.Basedonthestabilityof
                  penstock - unitsubsystem ,thecouplingoscillationdomainisproposed,anditsanalyticalformulaisderived.Based
                  oneigenvalueanalysisandnumericalsimulation ,theoscillationcharacteristicsofthecouplingsystemarestudied.
                  Theamplitude - frequencycharacteristicsandinteractionbetweenthetwosubsystemsareinvestigatedbyfrequency -
                  domainanalysis.Thequantitativeindexformeasuringthestabilityofthecouplingsystemisproposed.Theresults
                  showthatwhenthegovernorparametersaresetoutsidethecouplingoscillationdomain,thehydropowersystem is
                  unstable.Therefore ,thegovernorparameterssetinthecouplingoscillationdomainisanecessaryconditionforthe
                  stabilityofthewholehydropowerstationsystem.Thestabilityofthecouplingsystemisdeterminedbythelowfre
                  quencyoscillationmodewhenthegovernorparametersaresetinthecouplingoscillationdomain.Bysubstitutingthe
                  frequencyofthelowfrequencyoscillationmodeintotheproductoftheamplitude - frequencycharacteristicfunctions
                  ofthetwosubsystems ,theoscillationsuperpositionratecanbeobtained.Theoscillationsuperpositionratereflects
                  thegainvalueofthesystemdisturbanceintheclosed - loopsystem ,whichhasclearphysicalmeaning.Whenthe
                  oscillationsuperpositionrateislessthan1 ,thedisturbedsystemtendstobestable.Theresearchresultsnotonly
                  enrichthetheoreticalsystem ofhydraulictransitionprocess ,butalsohavegoodengineeringapplicationvaluefor
                  improvingtheoperationstabilityofhydropowerstation.
