Abstract:Groundmotionisacomplextimeserieswithnonstationarityinfrequency - domainwhichhassignificant
effectonthedynamicresponseofstructures.Inthispaper ,astochasticsimulationmethodofground - motionisde
velopedusingthewaveletpackettransform ,andthenaseriesofsimulatedgroundmotionsthatmatchthetarget
spectralaccelerations ,butalsomatchAriasintensity(I)build - upprocess,significantdurationsaswellasnon
a
stationaritycharacteristicsaregenerated.Moreover ,theeffectoffrequency - domainnonstationarityonthenonlinear
dynamicresponsesofanembankmentdam areinvestigatedusingthesesyntheticmotions.Resultsshowthatthe
groundmotionsofwhichthefrequencynonstationarityiscontrolledhaveabetterunbiasedestimationofthestructur
alresponse ,andstationarygroundmotionswillunderestimatetheresponsesofthedam.
